AGBALBALITOK
FULL LENGTH DOCUMENTARY SYNOPSIS Since the dawn of civilization, man has been captivated by gold. Centuries before the conquistadors and great explorers of the Old World set sail in search of gold, silver and spices, the original settlers of Itogon – the Ibalois and the Kankana-eys – panned gold from the rivers and streams flowing down its verdant slopes. This idyll was broken with the arrival of the American prospectors in Benguet, marking the first gold rush in Itogon. Gold exploration in the mountains of Benguet peaked with the establishment of some of the world’s biggest mining corporations, behemoths that relentlessly tunneled into the mountains – blasting, hauling, crushing and refining gold ore – till all the viable deposits were depleted. Only then did the mining frenzy end as these giants shut down, but only for a moment. The meteoric rise in the price of gold has spawned a 21st century gold rush in the abandoned mines of Itogon as leftover low-grade deposits become big business once more. In the mad scramble to extract more and more from the almost exhausted supply, big mining corporations clash with indigenous peoples and tens of thousands of migrant small-scale miners over control of the land and its resources. It is in these turbulent times that we find John Ray, a young Ibaloi miner trying to support his growing family, making difficult choices. Driven by the hope of striking it rich and the desperation of living hand to mouth, John Ray makes an offering to the benevolent and generous god of gold, Balitok, just as his forefathers have done before him. When he finds a promising vein, however, the traditional miner decides to shun the old ways of mining gold and run the mine differently, using modern mining methods that are more aggressive, and far more destructive. As he goes through great lengths to mine this precious metal, he soon realizes the true price of gold and who really pays for it. It is through his eyes and the eyes of those around him that we shall see the dark, underground world of the gold prospector, and the light at the end of the tunnel. • Official Selection for Jeevika 2014, Professional Long Documentaries Director: Ferdinand John Balanag Screenwriter: Jay Sarfati Editors: Glenn "Spyke" Pat-ogan, Hendrix Sanchez Cameramen: Glenn "Spyke" Pat-ogan, Jonathan Barrozo Music: Shant Verdun, Karlo Altomonte, Toni Bernardo Production Manager/ Line Producer: Jigs Ancheta Assistant Production Manager: Jyx Guerrero Researcher: Grace Bandoy Photographers: Dave Leprozo Jr and Kristian Leprozo Communications and Marketing Specialist: Jane Aquien |

WALKING THE WAKING JOURNEY
FULL LENGTH DOCUMENTARY SYNOPSIS Set against the backdrop of a country rich with history and cultural identity, the journey is a glimpse into the hopes and dreams of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Seven years ago, Lama Tenzin, a young Tibetan monk, rescued children from poor living conditions in the isolated villages in the Himalayan border region of Upper Dolpo, Nepal. He built a home for them in India where he raised and educated them, and provided them with spiritual guidance with the hope that these children would return to their homes one day and do the same for their communities. In 2008, Lama Tenzin took the eleven children he rescued on a 30 day journey back to visit their homes and families. Walking the Waking Journey is the documentation of that remarkable voyage. The viewer is invited to join Lama Tenzin and the children as they move through the fierce and jagged beauty of the Himalayan landscape.

"WALK HAPPY! BAGUIO CITY!"
AN ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN THAT ENCOURAGES WALKING AND PROMOTES RESPONSIBLE TOURISM. New ad campaign takes Baguio by storm Award winning indie film director Ferdinand Balanag of The Workshop for Infinite Media (TWIMedia, Inc.) directs “Walk Happy! Baguio City!”, a tourism campaign that advocates for an orderly and disciplined City of Pines during the celebration of Panagbenga Festival and all holidays henceforth celebrated within the city and its neighbouring tourist spots. The ad campaign soars online through the hashtag #WalkHappyBaguioCity. Helping spread the word of the project, a surprisingly infectious whirlwind of goodvibes has taken over its Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/718206274958902/). Everyone, from locals and past and present visitors to Baguio City, is invited to share their own experiences and photographs taken during their walks and escapades in the City of Pines. Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc. exec-committee chairman Anthony De Leon of the Baguio Country Club revealed last month that the infomercials will encourage visiting tourists to explore other spots and outdoor destinations in Baguio-Benguet-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) that otherwise would not gain exposure. “Walk Happy! Baguio City!” is a joint venture of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB), Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc. (BFFFI), Baguio Conventions and Visitors Bureau (BCVB), Baguio Country Club, and the production team of The Workshop for Infinite Media, Inc headed by indie film director Ferdie Balanag. “My most cherished memories occurred in this city, and it continues to charm and enchant me. It is a privilege to be tapped for this project and be able to show people all the ways one can fall in love with Baguio over and over again. While enjoying the popular sights on foot, it is our hope that people will take closer notice of our city’s beautiful environment and experience its natural allure, know and remember it not just for its strawberries and commercial souvenirs, but discover its rich cultural roots and artful heritage safeguarded as well as embodied by its wonderful people. A re-discovery of Baguio in this way will inspire a deeper, more personal appreciation and respect for our home,” were Mr. Balanag’s sentiments on the campaign’s bold mission. Mikey as the “Face of the Campaign” Top international performer, YouTube sensation, and ardent promoter of Filipino culture Mikey Bustos is the “Face of the Campaign”. Mikey started his career as a singer, and has now budded into an exceptional talent celebrated both locally and internationally. In addition to his actively documented travels all over the Philippines, he has made a name for himself by promoting the vibrant Filipino culture through his numerous video performances uploaded over the worldwide internet which are as informative as they are entertaining. His undeniable appeal has earned him an impressive following in the country and abroad. |
